Questions

Answered plainly,including the price.

The things people actually write in and ask. If yours is not here, the address at the bottom reaches the people who built it.

What it is

What is Maison?

Maison is a persistent AI assistant that installs on your own Mac. It remembers everything you have built together, goes and does real work rather than talking about it, and runs on hardware that belongs to you instead of as an account on somebody else's machine that can be changed, priced, read, or switched off without asking you.

Is Maison the same thing as Maison AI or Maison I Am?

Yes. The name is one word in the address and three when people say it out loud, so it gets written as Maison AI, Maison I Am, Maison Iam and maisoniam. They all mean this: the assistant at maisoniam.com, built by Maison Collective.

How is it different from ChatGPT or Claude?

Those are websites. They will remember a few things about you, on their servers, inside their app, and they have never seen your files. Maison is software that lands on your computer and keeps one continuous memory of your work: every conversation, every document, every person you have mentioned, and every decision and the reason behind it. It also finishes work while you are somewhere else, and comes back with the thing itself rather than instructions for making it.

Does it actually do work, or does it just answer?

It does the work. You give it something real, it goes away, and it comes back with the finished thing along with what it found and what it decided along the way. It reads the mail, tells you what matters, drafts replies and sends the ones you have said it can send. It keeps going overnight and is further along in the morning than where you left it.

What it needs

Does Maison run locally or in the cloud?

It installs on your computer. The parts that hear you, speak back, and search your own memory run on your machine and keep working with the network off. The reasoning runs through your own Claude account, signed in once during setup and billed to you by Anthropic under your terms rather than ours.

What do I need to run it?

A Mac with Apple Silicon, 16 GB of memory to run it and 24 GB or more to run it comfortably, and about 25 GB free. The first run takes roughly an hour, most of which is downloading the models it thinks with. You also need your own Claude account, which is billed separately and never marked up.

Where does my data live?

In a private database on your own disk. Everything Maison comes to know about you is a file you own and can read, copy, back up, or delete without asking anyone. By default none of your conversations are stored on our servers, and the memory stays yours if you leave.

Is it exposed to the internet?

No. The assistant is reachable from your phone over your own private network. There is no public address and nothing is exposed to the internet.

What it costs

What does Maison cost?

$799 a month for one machine, plus $250 a month for each person you add, up to four people besides you. The $250 is the same whether they write to it, talk to it, or build with it. More than four people is a company, and a different tier. Your Claude account is separate and bills to you directly.

Can my team use the same Maison?

Yes. Every project gets a room, with the people you invite in it and Maison in it too, following what is being decided and building what gets asked for. Each person has their own relationship with it, and what happens in a project stays there.

The company

Who makes Maison?

Maison Collective, a Delaware public benefit corporation whose purpose is written into its charter, paired with a trust that owns no economics and holds one power: the power to say no.

What is the Maison Institute?

A venture studio that builds your project with you and charges no fees, taking a stake instead. You bring the intent and it brings the capability. It starts as a conversation rather than an application.

Can I read what it is bound by?

Yes. The values every Maison runs on are published in full at maisoniam.com/constitution rather than kept proprietary. It is the actual file the software loads, not a summary of it.

Still the fastest answer is watching it work.

Ten seconds of seeing it run beats every paragraph on this page. Or read the longer answers on what Maison is, memory, doing the work, your mail, talking to it, running locally, privacy and what it costs.
